We are German citizens living in Chile and we bought the vehicle brand new in December 2019. We have never had any technical issues with this reliable pickup truck. The JAC T6 is sold in most countries in South America and technical service is available accordingly. The vehicle is robust and economical, although we drive rather defensively or moderately, especially off-road and gravel roads.
Issues: The windshield has got a stone chip and the 7 cm long crack is stable and not in the field of vision. And as always: minor signs of wear consistent with age, but no technical issues.
We traveled with the vehicle exclusively in Chile and used the roof tent for multi-day camping trips in the mountains and to the sea. The vehicle coped perfectly with steep paths and sandy tracks, even at altitudes of up to 3,000 meters. As with all vehicles, you notice a drop in performance at altitude. Frost and hot travel days were never a problem. The car’s ground clearance gives it plenty of freedom beyond the regular tracks.

The roof tent can be opened in seconds and unfolded easily thanks to the pneumatic cylinders. The telescopic ladder can be attached to the sides or rear for access. The awning can be set up or taken down quickly with the 4 metal poles that hold it. We rolled up the awning all the way round in windy conditions and secured it with clips. The comfortable mattress is approx. 7 cm thick and comes with a seperate carpet pad for ventilation. The tent is little used, free of stains or mold, without fissures or holes and has the usual signs of use, such as slight rubbing at the contact points. The zippers and mosquito nets are in perfect condition. The tent has been aired regularly and the mattress has been stored clean and dry when not in use.
The roof tent housing is made of aluminum. When closed, you can attach e.g. a surfboard on top, up to 40 kg, according to the seller. We have never used this feature. The mounting rail on the top would be very suitable for the permanent installation of solar panels.
We have always found it useful to fix the ladder at the back and use the open flap of the pickup truck load area as a standing and storing area. This standing area is very useful when opening and closing the tent.
The roof tent frame was self-assembled (welded structure) and firmly attached to the vehicle with screws, using the original mounting points of the roll bar. Like the roof tent itself, the frame can be removed if necessary.
The tent weighs 70 kg, the frame weighs about 30 kg.
The roof tent support is designed so that all sides can be planked to have a permanent secured/protected space at the storing area.
