About
2015 Mitsubishi Fuso Canter 4x4 FGB71, 3.0 turbo-diesel Euro-5 overland expedition camper.
The camper was built for extended touring for a couple, or indeed full-time van-life travelling for a solo or couple. Bumper to bumper, the rig was designed to be just under 6 mtrs, which saves a lot of money on the Scottish ferries and others, and is surprisingly shorter than most LWB vans but far more volume. It has a surprisingly tight turning circle for a truck and/or 4x4, fits in standard width carparks at the supermarket and gets about in urban situations with ease.
The camper build was completed April 2023.
External overall dimensions: 5980 long x 2150 wide x 3150 high (mirrors and tyre rack add to these dimensions)
Wheelbase: 3415mm (MWB)
Internal box dimensions: 4080 x 2030 x 2080
Performance: 175hp and 370nm
15,000 miles, currently in use so mileage will change. Fresh MOT - expires Oct 2025.
Registered on V5 as Private HGV, body type is Van with Windows. This means a tachograph and CPC licence is not required to drive it. The GVM is 6.5t, so can be driven on a pre-1997 car licence, or a post-1997 C1 licence. It receives a standard Class-4 car MOT, and the road tax is a standard £165. Being Euro-5 means it is LEZ compliant.
In full touring load with full water tanks, fuel tank, food, clothing and camping gear, it sits at 5.5t and returns 18 mpg on the open road, far better than the 10-ish mpg that a Daf or Unimog camper truck does.
Cab-chassis
- right hand drive (RHD)
- two seats in cab, both are sports seats on suspension bases. Rear-view monitor, switching between two cameras - one looking back down the road, the other looking down to the immediate rear for reversing.
- 5 speed manual gearbox and high-range-only transfer box for 4wd. Free-wheeling hubs on the front axle for fuel economy in 2wd. Factory-fitted LSD in rear axle.
Habitation box and subframe
- the bare box and the 4-point torsion-free subframe was professionally built for us by Atkinson Vos, the UK's premier Unimog specialists. The full interior fit-out and systems build was done myself.
- the subframe is galvanised steel
- the box is fully bonded 60mm thick GRP-rigid foam-GRP composite insulated panels.
Water systems
- 300 litres of fresh water in two tanks inside the box for cold climates.
- 110 litres of grey water, in two tanks - one inside the box and the other outside (insulated and heated for winter).
- 45psi water pump for shower and galley.
- all water passes through a 10-micron sediment and 5-micron carbon filter.
- Acuva LED drinking water UV-sterilizing unit, with an additional 1-micron filter.
- 30 litre hot water calorifier, heated by either diesel hydronic water heater (off-grid) or 230v (campsite). The calorifier has second heating coil to add engine heat at later date if required.
Heating systems
- two domestic heated towel radiators and a blower matrix fed by the Autoterm 5kw diesel hydronic burner, which has it's own 25 litre tank separate from the truck fuel tank.
- 150w background heater powered by the inverter.

- 2x 340w Trina half-cut solar panels

- 115 litre Isotherm 12v-230v compressor fridge, of which 32 litres is freezer compartment.
- 230v bench top oven. If something was ever to go wrong with it on the road, get another from any department/electrical store, rather than trying to find parts for a fitted oven in a foreign country.
- Baraldi extractor hood above the hob.
- Reginox sink with domestic chrome mixer with integrated drinking water tap.
- Daewoo Mini 3kg clothes washer-dryer, 230v. Uses only 25 litres on a 30min wash and 40w.

- porch light
- perimeter zombie lights
- T-track sections on kerb-side wall to attach an awning or clothesline.

- fresh water faucet for external washing (shoes, dog, solar panels etc) and one of the lockers has a 230v socket for power tools or appliances outdoors.
There are user manuals for all of the major components, and owners manual and workshop manual (PDFs) for the truck. There is a dedicated code reader for the truck, and code reading/clearing can also be done via the dash binnacle. Also, there is a spare (6th) new rim and tyre, not on the vehicle.
There is probably more I haven't mentioned, therefore a viewing would be necessary to fully appreciate the extensiveness and quality of the build and components used. To buy a Fuso camper from one of the several European and Australian expedition camper manufacturers that use this chassis (Woelcke, Bimobil, Azimoo, Earth Cruiser and others) would cost EUR 250k+. Self building is expensive too, as everything used in this build has rocketed in cost since COVID, inflation etc. We are selling a ready-built truck for £89k (firm).
As mentioned above, the camper is still being used for touring, currently around and about Scotland. The reason for sale is because we have the possibility of taking on a bigger long-term project that would mean the camper will get used less than it deserves until that project is finished.
Viewing the camper in Scotland is welcomed for serious buyers - please email with any questions or to view the camper. You will need the correct licence endorsement to test-drive the truck. We are based in Hamilton, near Glasgow.
The camper has been exclusively pet-free, smoke-free and child-free, and is presented in excellent condition.
The camper is sold in as-is, as-seen condition, and no guarantee or warranty is expressed or implied. Payment by bank transfer only, and vehicle will be released only after funds have cleared (bank clearance for fraud, money laundering etc) which usually takes 48 hrs.
