About
1966 VW Camper. Original Snowtop conversion from California. Falmouth, Cornwall
This is Egg. I’ve been her keeper and caretaker for 30 years and it’s now time for me to pass her on for someone else to enjoy. I am the 3rd owner. The owner before me had her for 20 years. I bought her in California when I was living there, and when I moved here, Egg followed not long after. I have had so many amazing adventures with this camper van. Mexico, Guatemala, America, UK and Ireland, etc!!! I have done all the mechanical work myself, including yearly oil changes, points, valve adjustment, and anything else that needed doing like brakes, clutch, etc. I did have the engine and transmission rebuilt and replaced the clutch and throwout bearing when I reinstalled them. The rebuilt engine code AS131066. 1974. 1600 single port. 50 bhp, and the current mileage on the engine is 20727. I recently replaced the starter and bushing as well as the front wheel bearings and all 4 tires as per the last MOT. I’ve always repaired all the advisories on the MOT, and since her first MOT in 2006, she has only failed 4 times and not one fail since 2011. I had her resprayed in the original color when she arrived here. The subframe is in fantastic condition. It was undercoated when I bought her, and I had it redone around 2010. This van is almost completely original. I’ve not really changed anything over the years. The interior is made in Ash wood and has damage here and there, but I just never changed it as it all has memories. I have the original brochure that I got from the previous owner that came with the van when purchased new. Even has the optional extras ticked that came with her!!!!! There is some minor rust that will need seeing to but nothing serious at all. The conversion is one of the best I have ever seen. I’ve traveled in this van for as long as 8 months on one journey and she is a dream. So much storage and everything is so convenient. Kinda like a yacht. Inside there is an icebox and sink with water tank. A 2 burner Coleman stove which runs on petrol or white gas. The original toilet that came with the van. The bed sleeps 2 comfortably and folds away so quick. I am including lots of extras as well like tools and spare parts. Too much stuff to list here. One thing I did add was a leisure battery which charges while driving from the alternator. It can also be charged by a solar panel which is included and I installed a large inverter that gives 240v. This camper is very rare. There are not many left in the world unfortunately. I’ve only ever seen one other one in the flesh and that was in the states many years ago. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions at all.
