About
1990 BMY 6x6 with 8.3 Cummins and 5-Speed Allison Automatic transmission has a 2015 Winnebago Minnie travel trailer mounted on the back and an original truck bed converted into a trailer with dual 7,000 lb Torsion axles. The truck came from Las Vegas Nellis Air Force Base in 2013 with approximately 11,000 miles, but recently underwent a full rebuild; the engine has less than 4,000 miles.
Engine: 8.3 Cummins modified, replacing the front cover and factory fuel pump with an RV-style pump and 3,000 lb governor springs. Fuel capacity increased from 150cc to 600cc. Custom injectors and fuel lines. An HX35 turbo was replaced with an ATS 71mm, and a Volvo 3.5-inch intercooler was installed. Factory output was estimated at 235 hp and 650 ft-lbs of torque, now estimated at 400+ hp and 1,400+ ft-lbs of torque. The truck and trailer cruise easily at 110 km/h (75 mph) and pass at 130+ km/h (85 mph), maintaining speed on hills. An approximately 12'10" tall low-profile AC unit is installed.
Transmission: Performance rebuilt with an upgraded torque converter and valve body, providing nicely spaced upshifts and downshifts compared to the stock transmission.
Interior: Hard top roof, small cab extension to allow seats to recline and provide massage, heated and cooled air ride captains chairs. Auto Meter gauges, upgraded steering wheel, Wet Sounds Bluetooth sound bar, Rear View Safety surround camera system, dual Odyssey 2150 series batteries, and a custom center console. An AC kit is available but not yet installed.
Tires/Suspension: 16.00R20 Michelin XZL (53") tires with approximately 80-85% tread. Rear axles on air bags provide 8-10" of travel, with the majority of the leaf springs removed.
Truck/Camper: The truck has two factory 87-gallon fuel tanks (661 liters) and an added 40-gallon water tank between the rear frame rails. The camper holds 40 gallons of water, two 37# propane tanks, a Whisper Power 4k diesel generator, an Odyssey 1800 AGM battery for the camper, two 160 Watt solar panels, and two Weatherguard slide-out tool trays for storage. The camper was purchased new in 2015 and has been used only a couple of times since mounting on the truck; it has no slides and was built for rigidity. It sleeps two adults and has a dinette that folds into a smaller bed, with a huge amount of storage throughout, including full pass-through storage under the bed from outside the camper.
Trailer: The trailer was built using the original truck bed and is constructed from 3x8" rectangle tubing with a 2,000 lb pintle hitch, a 50-gallon water tank, a 50-gallon fuel (gas) tank, a 100# propane tank, a 3,600 watt Cummins Onan propane generator, a manual crane for spare tires, and dual aluminum ramps (8,000 lb rated). The trailer uses 35x12.50r16 tires and wheels.
Likely missing lots; over 1,200 hours have been invested in building this over the years. Assistance can be provided with exporting from Canada and/or delivery if purchased outside of the country. The truck and trailer have been Alberta registered for personal/recreation use and can be driven with a standard license with an air brake endorsement.
