About
2021 RAM 5500 LWB 4x4 single cab chassis was purchased new for this conversion. SLT cab with two heated seats, large center console, heated steering wheel, LED headlights, dual gasoline tanks (75 gallons total), dual alternators, extra HD suspension RAM option, limited slip rear axel, alloy wheels, and “many fluffy items.” It has been professionally re-sprung to correct ride balance for load. Chassis rails were extended for the box. Otherwise, the chassis and engine are 100% original RAM for reliability and to avoid confusing mechanics with unusual build modifications.
The camper box is a Brown brand commercial dry box purchased new for this build, HD version with all rivets on 2” centers. It’s 16’ on floor plus the “Grandma’s attic” over the cab. It’s 102” wide. The floor is 1.25” hardwood butcher block. It’s mounted to the chassis on a series of springs and bushings, as used on off-pavement water trucks, so the chassis can twist without stressing the camper box. Professionally applied spray insulation for the walls and ceiling makes the box feel solid as a land home and has high thermal insulation qualities. Interior walls, ceiling, and all cabinets are made of 5/8” or 3/4” Baltic Birch and 80/20 inch extruded aluminum. All finishes are highest quality exterior grade multi-layer latex. It has stainless steel yacht-style hinges and drawer/cabinet door catches. All drawer sliders are soft-closing and rated at least 3x drawer weight. There’s a long twin-sized bed with 18”+ storage depth underneath. A dining table and seat are on top of a 10” tall storage area. The top of the bed is the same height as the dining bench so if needed, someone can sit on the bed and use the dining table. This interior engineering is brutally strong and might outlive your grandchildren. There are two roof vent fans that can be opened even in rain. A 7.5 gallon propane system with high and low pressure ports. A Nature’s Head composting toilet on 500# sliders to recess into a cabinet when not in use. It’s NOT in a shower to get wet. The shower is 31x33” wood slat base over a custom stainless steel pan. A 97 gallon fresh water tank uses a 3-filter system to filter to virus level as water is put into the tank. Water must be installed from inside the camper to prevent contamination. There’s a 25 gallon gray water tank. There are two ARB off-road 12VDC chest-style refrigerator or freezer units in drawers under the galley. The kitchen has a hardwood butcher block top, a deep stainless steel sink, Mexican ceramic tile “eye candy,” and a burn-proof place to set hot pots and pans on. There’s a 3-burner propane stove with beautiful cast iron grills. There’s a microwave and convection oven. An Ebersbacher/Rixen exterior gasoline-fueled furnace heats glycol mix to circulate and supply hot water, and a Pioneer 12t heat exchanger AC/heater. There’s a 420 AH lithium battery bank. An 800W solar panel grid. A 60A DC-DC charger with dual alternators on the truck. A 60A HTTP solar controller. A 3000W inverter. A marine-grade stereo with a bunch of speakers. Four Baja Designs cornering lights with work light lenses for exterior camping illumination. A motorcycle rack operates with two electric winches. Power to operate them requires use of factory RAM cab auxiliary switches (unmarked) and running engine, so theft of the motorcycle would be very difficult. The rack deploys to ground level to make loading of a motorcycle of a KTM 690 Enduro or Husqvarna 701 Enduro or similarly sized fit easily. The spare tire and 6 traction boards are also on the rack to make access easy.
