About
World-trip-tested, family-friendly four-wheel drive truck with up to 6 sleeping and travelling beds.
We travelled from Switzerland to Thailand and back with our Iveco Magirus 110-17AW between 2015 and 2016. It was absolutely reliable and never let us down, be it in the steppes of Mongolia, the Gobi Desert or the Taklamakan, in the highlands of the Himalayan foothills at over 4000 metres above sea level or on the never-ending roads in Russia.
Our Iveco proved its worth in all situations.
The straightforward technology and the lack of electronics made any repairs much easier.

We converted the Iveco ourselves over a period of 3 years from a driving school truck for the German army into a self-sufficient family motorhome. All rust was removed from the cab and the chassis was completely overhauled.
The entire chassis was soda blasted and repainted.
Our truck is fitted with 14R20 Michelin XZL tyres on tubeless snap ring rims from GABO. There are also two spare wheels at the rear, which are also mounted on tubeless snap ring rims. There are also four snow chains.
The cab offers space for 6 people (2 in the front, 4 in the rear) and plenty of storage space. Two air-sprung Grammer Arizona seats ensure wonderful driving comfort, especially on long motorway stretches. Otherwise, the cab is still in its original condition.
We chose a Zeppelin FMIII Shelter as the living container, which is mounted on a 4-point rhombic bearing and thus allows extreme and noiseless twisting of the chassis.
KTC real glass windows, with the appropriate roller blinds and Blackfly mosquito screens, ensure a light-flooded ambience.
The roof is fitted with 4 solar modules with a total output of 400Wp. The solar modules feed 4 Optima Blue AGM batteries with a total capacity of 300Ah. The on-board voltage is 12V, although there is also a 230 volt installation, which can be powered either via shore power or the built-in 2000W True-Sinus inverter from Votronic.
Two tanks (200 and 300 litres) can hold 500 litres of fresh water. As a perfect water supply is not always guaranteed when travelling around the world, we have installed ceramic and activated carbon filters so that the water is odourless and tasteless when it is drawn off and can be drunk without any problems.
A 40-litre Isotherm hot water boiler is installed for hot water, which can be heated either via 230 V shore power or the on-board power supply.
A well-hidden cassette toilet and a simple shower are integrated in the entrance area.
Cooking is done either using a Dickinson Pacific diesel cooker (with oven), which is normally installed in fishing boats, or a 2-burner Origo spirit cooker, which is stowed away in the drawer when not in use. Heating can be provided either by the diesel cooker, which generates a pleasant radiant heat and keeps the inside of the cabin dry, or by an Autotherm air heater.
The refrigerator from Isotherm has a capacity of 65 litres and offers sufficient space.
The spacious and very comfortable seating area is located in the centre of the living container, virtually between the kitchen and the parents' bed, and can be converted into an additional double bed if required. There is additional storage space under the seats, as well as the inverter batteries and the 200 litre fresh water tank.
The master bed is at the rear end and measures 1.4x2m, it has a curtain for some privacy. A large KTC real glass window is at the head end, so you have a marvellous view outside from the bed.
The extension was made from plywood to fit perfectly, all the locks are from Southco which still work perfectly and keep the many flaps and drawers reliably closed. The children sleep in bunk beds one above the other, the upper one is approx. 170cm long, the lower one approx. 150cm. Both beds have a small hatch for fresh air and light. The 300 litre fresh water tank is located under the lower bunk bed.
The spacious drawers and cupboards offer plenty of storage space for everything you need when travelling the world.
From the outside, you have access to the large boot in the rear.
Since our return, the Iveco has been regularly serviced and maintained. As we have kept the Iveco in a species-appropriate manner, it naturally has signs of wear and tear. A few scratches on the exterior paintwork are evidence of contact with branches in the Laotian jungle. However, we always drove carefully through the off-road passages and handled our Laschti with care.
It is registered and can be test-driven at any time if you are interested.
