Mercedes Benz 1225Af Expedition Truck for a family of 4-5
About
This Mercedes-Benz 1225Af was originally a fire engine purchased with approximately 30,000 km and now has approximately 63,000 km (40,000 miles). It was converted into an Expedition truck in 2020/21 with no expense spared. The cab features two queen-size beds, air conditioning, cabin floor heating, air heating, and water heating. It also includes an induction cooktop, washing machine, and stove/microwave combo, with a 10 kWh energy system. Externally, there are numerous storage boxes, an electrical rear rack for two spares and a motorcycle, a roof rack with a storage box and crane, and solar panels with a CTIS (ti system).
This Mercedes, equipped with the indestructible OM422 engine (14.6L – V8 – 300hp), is built for one million miles according to Mercedes. It’s designed to handle tropical or arctic climates and includes ample storage for tools and accessories for a family of 4-5 people.
Why a fire engine? Fire engines have all-wheel drive and differential locks, a longer axle ratio, and single wheels, allowing them to reach speeds of 105 to 120 km/h (65 to 75 mph) and travel comfortably on highways while also providing a gear reduction for challenging terrain. Firetrucks are meticulously maintained.
The OM422 engine accepts lower-rated diesel fuel still distributed in Africa and parts of South America, while a modern, electronically modified engine would likely have difficulties using this fuel type.
