About
This is a highly customized and exceptionally robust Unimog U1750 L 38, built for extreme off-road travel and self-sufficiency. Originally purchased for the Nato Army in 1990 and subsequently modified for round-the-world expeditions, it’s a unique vehicle designed for extended, remote operation.
Key features include a powerful 6-cylinder turbo diesel engine (124 kW/170 PS), heavy-duty portal axles providing 65 cm ground clearance, and a significant load-carrying capacity (11900 kg GVWR). The vehicle boasts numerous modifications for self-sufficiency, including three 200-liter diesel tanks, a comprehensive electrical system (12V/24V with inverter and solar panels), a robust recovery system (winches, sand ladders), and a sophisticated water system (gravity-fed, filtration, hot water heater).
The body is constructed from a lightweight, corrosion-resistant fiberglass composite sandwich plate, offering a unique combination of strength and weight reduction. It features a comfortable interior layout with sleeping arrangements for three people (rooftop tent and pedestal beds) and ample storage compartments. The vehicle is remarkably equipped for off-road capability, including differential locks, a PTO output for winches, and a 16-bar air system. It has approximately 180,000 km on the chassis (manufactured in 1983) and body (manufactured in 1994), and is ready for immediate use. The vehicle's design prioritizes ease of maintenance and repair, utilizing a mechanical engine and simplified electrical systems.
